FIELD GUIDE 01 / FOLDWELL

A place for
your world.

Foldwell is a browser app for organising belongings, time and ideas. Put things inside places, bring them into plans, and keep the thoughts that do not quite fit anywhere yet.

Start a space

Start with one place you know well. A kitchen drawer, a work bag or the shed is enough; the rest can grow around it.

  1. Create your space. Open Foldwell and choose the account creation option. Choose a username and a password of at least 12 characters. Foldwell does not collect an email address.
  2. Keep your recovery key. The key is shown once when you create your account. Save it somewhere safe, such as a password manager; it is how you can recover access if you forget your password.
  3. Add a block. Give it a useful name, then use Lives in to put it inside another block. You could create Home, add Rucksack inside it, then put Torch inside Rucksack.
  4. Add a little detail. Notes, a quantity, tags, an icon and a colour can make the block easier to recognise and find later.

Things, time and ideas

Follow the places

Blocks can sit inside other blocks. Use that nesting to describe where something actually lives: a room, a cupboard, a box or a bag. Search helps you find names, notes, tags and scrapbook text or links.

Gather a collection

Give related blocks the same tag to bring them together as a collection. “Camping” might connect a tent in the shed with a torch in your rucksack. The items keep their own places.

Make room for a plan

Time blocks have a start and end. Link the belongings you want to bring along, then find your plans under Your time. Favourites give you a shorter route back to the blocks you use most.

Keep an unfinished thought

Use idea scrapbooks for notes, web links and images. A recipe, a possible journey or a half-formed project can live alongside the practical things.

Try one small corner first.
Order does not have to arrive all at once.

Your account & your data

Your space is saved on the Foldwell server and is private to your account. It is not end-to-end encrypted: the site operator can access server data for maintenance. The app has no advertising or analytics scripts.

Open the account menu for Download my space to keep an export. Import a space replaces your current blocks with the imported contents, so download a copy first if you want to keep both. Undo is available for recent edits.

If you forget your password, choose Use a recovery key on the sign-in screen. After recovery, keep the new key in place of the old one. The in-app About your data page explains the current arrangements.

A few useful answers

Do I need to install Foldwell?

No. Open it in a web browser and sign in to your account. This guide is public; your blocks require sign-in.

Is a collection the same as a place?

A place describes where a block lives. A tag-based collection brings related blocks together across those places.

Is Foldwell finished?

It is an early beta. Features and details are still developing, and downloading an occasional copy of your space is a useful habit.
